Welcome to the Penna Family - Karl Sanderson

I am delighted to be one of the newest additions to Penna, and I join with 7 years of recruitment experience. I am a specialist in working with Local Authorities and Housing Associations recruiting technical and professional roles across these organisations. This includes Housing Management. Homelessness & Supported Housing. Unqualified Social Care. Housing Development, Regeneration & Planning. Environmental Health & Enforcement. Property & Construction. Customer Service & Administration.

 

Through working in partnership with my clients over the last 7 years I have developed a deep understanding of what makes them tick. From working with graduates and support staff, all the way through to Directors and Executive level specialist’s. It’s given me a very broad understanding of my market and the types of people that add value to these organisations.

 

Working in recruitment allows us to make a genuine difference to people’s lives, be it helping those that are unemployed or supporting those searching for development through their career. My passion really grew supporting Local Authorities and Housing Associations once I began to understand the industry. I personally identified with the sector, as I was raised in a property owned by a Housing Association and later purchased through a Right to Buy scheme.

 

Recent amendments of the Housing Act 1996 Part VII, which saw the introduction of the Homelessness Reduction Act are great to see. Even more emphasis on Local Authorities to improve the help and support already provided, to those at risk of becoming homeless. Then with the recent lift of the Housing Revenue cap we’re also seeing even more Regeneration and Development projects within Local Authorities and Housing Associations to create more affordable housing solutions.

 

There is a constant pressure on the government around the performance of councils and Housing Associations. However, having experienced first-hand the housing difficulties facing those within the community, it is now a privilege to provide a consultative service to candidates and clients who through their work, and our placements are making a real difference to people’s lives -  which is exactly what Hastoe did for myself, my parents and siblings. 

 

I’ve been extremely impressed so far with how Penna support both a candidates and client’s needs. From assisting an organisation with its Branding and Attraction of staff, to creating a Virtual Reality Assessment using the latest technology as Penna did with the Met Police project to improve their relevance of hire.

 

One specific method that I’ve witnessed is the excitement created around their Performance Media solution. Enabling clients to serve the right ads, to the right people, at the right time is vital. Based on their online behaviour and the different types of content they’re viewing, rather than purchasing ad space on a single website. Programmatic advertising allows a client to target specific types of people across thousands of websites at once. As an industry it grew by 31% in 2017 – that’s faster than social media (25%) and around 80% of marketers have used it in the past 12 months alone.

 

Local Authorities have always struggled recruiting to roles where there is strong competition for a more attractive package from the Private Sector. With the imminent legislative changes to IR35 in the Private sector due from April 2020, I think Performance Media and Pragmatic Advertising could play a vital role in not only attracting the right talent over the next few years, but also enabling Local Authorities and Housing Associations to deliver measurable results in attracting the right people from the private sector that fit with their values.

 

Ultimately, I am now tremendously excited to be working with an extremely well-established organisation that have the diversity and breadth, to offer solutions which can make a genuine difference to an organisation.
