Case Study

Islington Council

The challenge?

Islington Borough Council’s mission is to ‘create a place where everyone, whatever their background, has the same opportunity to reach their potential and enjoy a good quality of life’. But the council was in a period of transition. A number of the senior leadership team had either secured new positions or retired, including the Chief Executive and Director of Adult Social Services & Housing.

Meanwhile the council had recently made the decision to bring their ICT services back in house from a shared service. They therefore had a need for a Corporate Director of Resources, a Chief Information and Digital Officer as well as several interim project and programme managers with specific focus on the shared service arrangement.

Our solution?

Penna interim helped steady the ship by appointing all of these senior interims.

We took a detailed brief of Islington’s long-term goals and the type of individual which would fit well in their organisation. Penna provided a shortlist of suitable candidates which we’d carefully vetted to ensure a good fit for the brief as well as the council culture.

It was critical that the interims were confident, could hit the ground running, and deliver a swift impact. So Penna’s interim consultants fully briefed and supported the successful candidates, including the Head of Paid service appointee that was making a transition from a permanent to interim role.
